Academic Goals
- The Department aims to:

- Promote the development and role of curriculum and instruction in elementary, middle, and high schools on the basis of theoretical and practical research.
- Study and develop teaching materials and methods required in elementary and secondary Schools based on industrial educational governmental cooperation.
- Train competent researchers and faculty who are able to fulfill the academic and practical research necessary for subject matter education.
- Contribute to national and social development by keeping pace with the development of subject matter education.

Degree Requirements
- Each major deals with at least 50% of its courses related to curriculum and instruction pedagogy in the overall curriculum and opens each course biennially.
- Graduate students are required to take and complete a minimum of 24 credits in the M.A. program, more than 36 credits in the Ph.D. program, and more than 60 credits in the M.A. and Ph.D. coordination program prior to submitting the thesis for the degree.
- Since the curriculum for the M.A., Ph.D., and M.A. and Ph.D. coordination programs overlap, the students select credits required for the degree among the courses open for either the M.A. or Ph.D. programs.
- tudents in the M.A. program are required to take more than 15 credits of the 24 credits necessary for the degree in the courses of their own major, while the students in the Ph.D. program must take more than 21 credits of the 36 credits, and those in the M.A. and Ph.D. coordination program, more than 36 credits in the courses of their own major.
- All programs require the students to read the proposal for the thesis prior to their graduation. Those in the M.A. program must defend their thesis before more than 2 panels of authority and for those in the Ph.D. and the M.A. and Ph.D. coordination programs, more than 3 panels. The students who successfully pass the procedure are eligible to write their thesis for the degree. The presentation time of the proposal is not prescribed in the regulations and therefore it is subject to the student's discretion. For the Mathematics Education majors, candidates for M.S. degree and candidates for Ph.D. degree are required to publish at least one and at least two articles in the registered journals in NRF of Korea, respectively. They are also required to present at least one in the domestic or international academic conference.
- Each supervisor in each major, that is, a total of two supervisors of the committee are appointed and responsible for the harmonious and cooperative administration of the department. The supervisor of the committee is appointed by the Dean of the College of Education and is to hold office for 2 years.
- Each major may have its own requirements other than those specified here.
- Qualification for adviser: Faculty must publish at least one paper as a first author or a corresponding author in the related subjects of curriculum and instruction within last three years before one admits students.
Advisor designated course
Each major may assign the advisor designated course to the students in the M.A., Ph.D. and the M.A. and Ph.D. coordination program. Advisory professor will recommend quantity and kind of prerequisite courses.
Comprehensive Examinations
- The Comprehensive Examinations for graduation are conducted in each major respectively and the students are expected to select the courses in the M.A. and Ph.D. programs on their own.
- The students in the M.A. program are required to take 3 courses and the students in Ph.D. and M.A. and Ph.D. coordination programs 4 courses.
Addendum
Since 2003, these bylaws have applied retrospectively to all the students enrolled in the graduate programs (M.A., Ph.D., and M.A. and Ph.D.) in the Department.
